There were 12,782 housing units at an average density of 2,477.1 per square mile (956.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 37.4% White, 57.4% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.4% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 3.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.4% of the population.
