City of South Lyon is very fortunate to have a group of dedicated volunteers, intent on preserving the history of this area. It is the purpose of the Historical Society to collect, arrange and preserve historical materials, including books, pamphlets, maps, charts, manuscripts, papers, photos, copies of domestic and foreign records and archives, paintings, statuary and other objects and materials illustrative of and relating to the history of the South Lyon area, to procure and preserve narratives of the early pioneers, their exploits, perils, privations and achievements.
As of the census of 2010, there were 11,327 people, 4,646 households, and 2,914 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,036.7 inhabitants per square mile (1,172.5/km2). There were 5,125 housing units at an average density of 1,374.0 per square mile (530.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 0.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
